Our last night in Yangon wasn´t as peaceful as
the nights we´ve had so far. Sharing a room with six Vietnamese men and women,
plus a baby… Yes you can guess how great it was. All of them decided to wake up
at 3 o’clock, take 20min long showers per person, and have loud conversations,
which lead to that Taru and me lost our minds.
Our last day in Yangon was spent walking around
in Yangon. We had a delicious Indian lunch before we walked all the way back to
our hostel. By taxi we arrived at the bus station. A night bus with JJ-Express departing at 8pm
will take us to Bagan, a city all the way up in the north. The trip will take
us 8 hours. The bus ticket in first class (since the standard tickets were sold
out) costs 28,000 kyat (20€). We had no choice but to purchase the first class tickets, but if you are considering whether to buy standard or first class tickets, there is no big difference. I would say that we had the worst seats, since we were sitting all the way in the back. However, the company offers a small package with snacks and a bottle of water. The strangest thing was that we had a 20minute break and were all forced to leave the bus. Some of the passengers were sleeping but were still forced to wake up and get out.
8 hours later in a long bumpy ride with 1 hour of sleep, we finally arrived to
Bagan. Whenever entering Bagan, visitors has to pay an entry fee to the Bagan Archaeological Zone 25,000 kyats (18€). We will spend two nights at the Ostello Bello Hostel. This hostel seems
to be pretty popular among backpackers travelling in Myanmar. Bagan welcomed us with a beautiful sunrise, and watching some dramas at the hostels rooftop, since we were not able to check in at 05:30am (totally understandable).
