Our morning started with a lovely breakfast at
the hostels rooftop. Straight after we were on our way for an 7-hour boat tour
around Inle Lake. Our group consisted of two girls from the Netherlands, two
from Germany, and Taru and myself from Finland. The weather couldn´t have been
better!
We saw how a normal day around the lake looks
like. The floating gardens were amazing and you could see how the tomatoes and
kesäkurpitsas were mognade?. The boat took us around a little village built
above the lake. Such a simple life, but they definitely have everything they
need just around the corner. They use their small boats to transfer themselves,
their groceries and things they might need for improving their living. A family
hosted us and served an amazing lunch in their floating house.
The tour also included a visit to a
hand-weaving factory, where girls were weaving beautiful scarfs and skirts. We
also visited a silver smith and had our chance to buy some stunning jewelry. In
between, we visited yet another temple. Last but not least, we got the chance
to see how they make their tobacco. You will find these tobaccos everywhere and
many hostels offer their guests these tobaccos for free. This is a DTM-moment:
I actually tried it. I´ve never smoked a single cigarette in my entire life,
but Myanmar made me do it. It tasted like anise and honey, which I think was
amazing. But no, this was totally my first and last cigarette ever.
When the sun started to set we had a lovely
walk by the stunning bridge in Maing Thauk village, and soon after we enjoyed
the beautiful sunset. Such a successful day, and the tour was only 11,000 kyats
(8,10€), and it was worth way more than that. A perfect day!
